Product info
What is pure tungsten?
Pure means not mixed with anything else or clean, free of dirt, dust, bacteria, or any harmful substances.
Pure tungsten is the material from which pure tungsten products are produced. The purity of pure tungsten is said to be more than 99.95 percent pure. Products made from pure tungsten have the highest density of any tungsten product, including tungsten alloys and carbide products. Pure tungsten products are preferred by customers for their high density, high-temperature resistance, high corrosion resistance, high wear resistance, high hardness, and low thermal expansion.
Tungsten /tʌŋstən/, also known as tungsten /wʊlfrəm/ (well-frəm), is a chemical element with the chemical symbol W and atomic number 74.
Pure tungsten is the only metal from several species known to occur in the third transformation series in bimolecular, in-use bacteria. It is the heaviest element known to be used by any living organism. However, tungsten interferes with the metabolism of molybdenum and copper and is somewhat toxic to the life of animals.
Pure tungsten products include tungsten electrodes, tungsten wires, tungsten contacts, tungsten heaters, tungsten wires, tungsten crucibles, etc.
Advantages of tungsten shielding against radiation.
Experts have found that radiation exposure may be reduced by tungsten shielding. The density of the material is related to its ability to stop radiation. Higher density means better braking power and shielding. Due to their higher density, tungsten alloys have a higher braking force than lead. For gamma radiation, its greater linear attenuation means that less shielding is required for equivalence. Tungsten shielding or equivalent provides a reduced exposure risk than equivalent lead shielding.
Tungsten alloy is a suitable raw material for radiation protection, radiating as a combination of density (60% more density than lead), workability, good corrosion resistance, high radiation absorption (superior to lead), simplified life cycle, and high strength. It can provide the same degree of protection as lead while significantly reducing the overall volume and thickness of shielding parts and containers. In addition, compared to lead or depleted uranium in the past, tungsten alloys are more acceptable in this case because they are non-toxic.
